Singing Frogs Farm – August 2019

Paul and Elizabeth Kaiser
2019 crew

approaching the pack house and green house area
this is one of the first hedges the Kaisers planted on the day they became owners of the farm
each bed has a flower or herb planted at the top, this is oregano

collecting crop residue and other organic materials to be made into compost later
Vegetable beds are cleared by cutting out plants and hauling to composting area
the view up from the lowest field to the higher gardens and house

happy brassicas in a diverse setting of some weeds and herbaceous perennial
non-irrigated wilder field edges

hand watering in some newly transplanted chard
Using a metal hoop every fourth in the high tunnel
cucurbits in high tunnel

beets just transplanted today
the lower fields, that often flood in winter, full of brassicas

tremendous plant diversity in a small space.
Elizabeth speaks of the relative “chaos” of their farm versus some other more manicured farms. It suits them fine.

Tomato harvest
newly transplanted chard. Notice the mulchiness of the bed top.

handwatering chard transplants
again, the beneficial strip along the beds tops

strawberry beds in foreground, lots of color, texture and variety in the background!
transplanted beets = multiple plants = just pick the big one first and let the others keep growing

tiny patch being occultated before planting
using straw mulch under trellised tomatoes
tomato rows every other bed on a sloping patch = good airflow.

newly transplanted squash
compost pile, mixed from three different piles, aging before usage.

Beautiful!
